I need to address the elephant in the room. Well, more to be precise, the elephant in my kobo. After selling off about 85% of my family’s belongings, we are trying not to add more than absolutely necessary to the house. We aren’t entirely confident The Netherlands is going to be our permanent residency. If my parents move over, then it probably will, but until they do, we’re still leaving it open to suggestion on if we end up going to Brazil, Spain, Korea, or Portugal in a few years time on a digital nomad visa to taste test those countries. If that’s the case, I really don’t want to move any more books than absolutely necessary. I have a couple of craft/quilt books from gifts over Christmas, and a few books in Dutch for practicing, but otherwise I am keeping to not buying anymore books for the house. I do have about a banker’s box worth of my books coming in the shipping crate. And those were special – ones I can’t get ebook versions of specifically.
So. I’ve been picking up ebooks. I also had some extensive surgery on my right wrist post double angiogram from when I had an avm resection craniotomy which almost destroyed my capacity to draw or paint. Still mad about that. But with those scars, it just hurts too much to hold a physical book open anymore. At least for more than about ten minutes. So, ebooks are now my absolute go to for enjoyment reading. If I’m working on Dutch, I set the books on a table and end up with it looking like a study session, so that tends to not be a problem, and the craft books are like recipe books – they can be left open with a couple paperweights to one 2-page spread for extended periods.
Neither here nor there, I really do need to address my To Be Read pile. I picked up several throughout last month that were free or really cheap and now I need to circle back around to those and get them read and reviewed. But the notorious problem with TBR piles is that you get the book in the moment it sounds interesting and then the interest disappears and you look at it and question if you’re ever going to find the premise interesting again or if it’s just going to acquire dust.
So, this is more of an accountability post, and somewhere to put up the synopsis to remind me of what the book is about quickly more than anything. Let me know if you see one you’ve read or want to read.

Valkyrie Lost by Shannon Pemrick
Synopsis
Will one desperate prayer deliver me salvation or seal my destruction?
I’ll do anything for my family, even call upon the gods to save them. I didn’t anticipate they would arrive in person to offer their blessing, and I most certainly didn’t predict the feelings they evoke in me when they decide to become part of my life.
As a cursed völva—a Norse witch—I have learned to not ask for more than I am afforded. So when Týr and Baldr openly admit their desire to be around me, I shouldn’t think anything of it beyond friendship. I am but a mortal woman, cursed to only feel the ache of a yearning heart. And yearn I do.
From shared drinking horns to unforgettable nights, I foolishly believe my curse is finally broken. But when trouble amongst the gods stirs, I may just pay the ultimate price for my transgressions.
And the price for spilling the blood of their Valkyrie is one too steep for any god.
Valkyrie Lost is perfect for fans of fated-yet-forbidden romances, reimagined Norse mythology, and stories such as A Fate Inked in Blood and Twilight of the Gods. It is book 1 of Astrid’s slow-build, the-men-fall-first saga that spans both the Viking Age and Modern Age. Her other two books are Valkyrie Renewed and Valkyrie Freed.
Astrid’s story is part of the Valkyries Rising series. Tales where the heroine doesn’t have to pick just one mate. In these pages, you’ll find strong heroines who don’t back down, and the shifters, gods, dragons, and other immortals who love them and fight by their sides.

When Maggie wakes up cold, filthy, and naked in a gutter, it doesn’t take her long to recognize Kair Toren, a city she knows intimately from the pages of the famously unfinished dark fantasy series she’s been obsessively reading and re-reading while waiting years for the final novel.
Her only tools for navigating this gritty world of rival warlords, magic, and mayhem? Her encyclopedic knowledge of the plot, the setting, and the characters’ ambitions and fates. But while she quickly discovers she cannot be killed (though many will try!), the same cannot be said for the living, breathing characters she’s coming to love—a motley band that includes a former lady’s maid, a deadly assassin, various outrageous magical creatures, and a dangerously appealing soldier. Soon, instead of trying to get home, she finds herself enmeshed in the schemes—and attentions—of dueling princes, dukes, and villains, all while trying to save them and the kingdom of Rellas from the way she knows their stories will end: in a cataclysmic war.
