Erwin Olaf Freedom gallery pictures with people looking

Gallery Post: Stedelijk 2025

I ended up going to Stedelijk on Museumplien in Amsterdam back in 2025. I wasn’t entirely sure how to show the pictures because they don’t have much to do with either my books or my reviews, but I want to share anyways. Photography is a love affair of mine that I don’t know what to do with. I can’t imagine too many folk interested in paying for digital downloads when you can just ctrl+c stuff into docs and print those. That’s what will probably happen here, and the images will be scrubbed for AI training. But, I don’t want those things to steal my enjoyment of an art form.

The Erwin Olaf Freedom photo took a while for me to compose, waiting for the write set of people to enter the frame and not to end up with any of their faces. It felt like a type of respected commentary on a man’s time in the underground of the lgbtq 1980s-2000s. And how now he can be featured in one of the well known modern art museums in Europe, and people will come to look upon his works in hushed, respectful manners. It is one of my favorite pieces I’ve shot in the last year.

I’m looking forward to when I finally get my DSLR in with the shipping crate. There are a ton of camera shops here in Amsterdam. I’ve been holding off going in them until I can re-account for all of my materials and see what lenses I want to save up for to expand with. I also refuse to work in adobe suites anymore, so I need to find myself a good photo editing software for RAWs. I was a certified bridal photographer and once and did several engagements, pregnancy announcements, and family shoots back in the states. It wasn’t something I found as much joy in as working landscapes and architecture. But people get use out of special-day photography, whereas, who buys art photos of landscapes? Maybe more people than I think, but I don’t actually know.

But I love it, and have missed doing it. So, it may not have much to do with my books or reviews, but I want to share my photos. Maybe it’ll give you an idea as to how I see the world when I write.
