I tested my key in the lock and found that I had been given one that worked for both my door and their’s. A surge of anger seeped under my skin, threatening fire drops at the idea that they could be locked in with no way out. I stared at the wobbling orbs at the end of my fingers, willing them back into myself. What if a fire broke out and they were trapped in it? What if I was the cause? I leaned my head against their door and closed my eyes to listen.
There was shuffling and rasping, muffled breaths, but nothing to let me know if they were doing what I figured they probably were doing with each other. I tapped gently. “Hey, can I come in?” I kept my voice low.
Shuffling approached the door. There was a pause and hitched sigh on the other side. “I’m not sure that’s a good idea, Matchstick.”
“I went to the apothecary. I brought you stuff,” I offered, my voice not much higher than a furtive whisper. A muffled groan on the other side wasn’t something I needed to be contending with, not in that moment when what they both needed was some level-headed help.
The door tugged open, Rowan’s flushed, humiliated face barely visible. They had drawn the curtains. He had tossed his shirt. Broad muscled shoulders with a thin sheen of sweat caught my glance. I fought to put that sudden low throb in my gut to the side. His downcast eyes slid across the ground, but refused to meet mine. He opened the door a little wider and let me slip in. The room was warm and dark, the only light coming from the low fire.
A lump under blankets on one of the beds had to be Farrow. Rowan’s sheets were cast aside haphazardly. A low moaning hiss from Farrow’s side was going to start something in me I didn’t need right now.
“I went-” I paused as Rowan’s fingers trailed along the spar of my ear, my chain swinging.
“You’re beautiful, Tanwyn.” His voice had gone husky and deep.
I was going to be in so much trouble. I caught his hand before he could get much more touchy-feely. “Down, boy.” That was not the right thing to say in that moment.
He sank to his knees, moaning, his eyes glazed as he reached for my belt. I shifted away from his fingers. Grasping his chin, I tilted his face to look at me. “Not unless I allow it.” I hissed. The lump on the bed hiccuped, and Rowan trembled, lips parting like he would start begging. I put a finger to my lips. Rowan practically vibrated in my hand while I held him like that.
“Sparrow bones?” I asked the lump.
“Tan?” The ‘n’ had completely disappeared in my name into a gulped sigh.
“You cognizant enough to talk to me or you lost like Rowan here?” I asked.
“It’s not as bad yet,” he fought to keep his breathy hitch quiet.
“I went to the apothecary. He gave me a bag of things that might help. Not sure what he gave me, but I figured I’d see if you two needed any of it,” I offered, as I walked away from Rowan to the shared table between the two beds. Rowan stayed where he was, admiration washing out his features. I pulled the sheet off Farrow to find him naked, his hand around his prick. I raised an eyebrow and dragged my appraisal along his skin to watch him squirm.
“Right.” I set the bottle of pink question juice on the table, then I upended the bag, a scattering of pots and bottles with little labels spreading across the rough wood. Cages like what I would have seen in the windows of the adult shops in New York made my eyebrows go up. I didn’t know those were a thing here. Then again, I was learning that much was different here. A hand length baton looking item made of leather had to be what I thought it was probably meant to be. I swallowed. What the hell sort of world had I gotten swapped into?
“Get over here, and I might see if I’m willing to help you out of your predicament,” I growled. That was enough to set Farrow over the edge, seed spilling across his travel cloak he had laid on the bed. He swallowed, horrified as he watched to see my reaction. I dropped the baton on the table. “Is it just me, or do I get the sense that’s not going to be the end of this?”
Farrow sighed like he had disappointed me. He cleaned himself off with his cloak and rolled off the bed to approach the table. “Find your answer?”
“That ya’ll can get pregnant. That you do this about every 60 days or so. That ya’ll can retain sperm for an undefined period of time and have a freakishly long gestation period, both of which can make the heat stop until birth. That you don’t have a separate entrance for a womb like Yujin women, which seems to be similar to humans. Chickens or snakes come to mind. That about sums up what I needed answered. Also that you, well, Rowan gave me a key to lock you both into this room for the next five days, but neglected to tell me that. And that left in your state without the lock ya’ll could turn into a nuisance to the other inn goers, I guess.” I was fighting to keep myself from folding and taking advantage of them. Rowan was making that increasingly difficult as he kept sitting where I’d left him, his whine and sigh slipping up my spine.
“That about sums it up.” Farrow grabbed the cage and slipped it on his flacid member while it was still in that stage. He twisted the lock and tossed the small key at me. “Hold onto that for me.”
I caught it and furrowed my brows. I tugged my leather cord off and slipped it on. “Not sure why the apothecary gave me those. I didn’t exactly look at what he gave me before coming back.” I wasn’t sure if I was trying to make that an apology.
“You told him there were two of us?” Farrow guessed. He pulled over a couple of pots and opened lids to sniff them.
I shrugged.
“He probably figured we might press together without that bit of control.”
“I don’t see anything resembling a condom in any of this.” I glowered at the pots and bottles.
“Condom?”
“An ended sleeve, usually of some type of plastic from my age, but older time periods could make it out of leather or intestine if I remember. It goes over your penis so you don’t ejaculate in someone else,” I turned on my sterile anatomy class professor if only to make it through this conversation alive. That pink drink the apothecary had given me had to hopefully still be working if I was able to talk to Farrow like this without stuttering.
“Never heard of something like that. No. Cages will help us if we’re sharing a room for now. Had one, but dropped it in the river crossing when I lost that bag.”
“Don’t feel like being pregnant at the moment?” I guessed, my voice flat. He shivered, the gasp dropping into my bones. His cheeks flushed a burnt red, and he went to touch himself, drawing across the metal. “Okay, let me rephrase that, your later-you-sane-brain won’t want to be doing that right now.” He couldn’t quite shake his head, but he also couldn’t quite nod. Lost between those decisions, he looked up at me, beseeching, begging. “Gods, Farrow, you can’t look at me like that.” I turned away, afraid I would touch him. His red curls were sticking to his forehead and I desperately wanted to trace the column of his throat just to watch him gasp again. The other cage lay on the table and for one minute I truthfully debated on claiming it.
I turned to Rowan and grabbed the cage. “Rowan?”
His eyes had locked onto what I held in my hand. “Matchstick?”
“You aware enough of what’s going on?” I asked.
“Barely.” His voice was thick and strained.
“Thoughts on wearing one of these?” I handed the metal to him.
His eyelashes feathered across his cheeks as he tried to breath. His teeth worked over his bottom lip. I wanted to run my hands through his hair in that moment. Wanted those lips around me, at the height he was at. Deciding to shift that desire, I squatted down to get him to look me in the eye. “I won’t take advantage of you, either of you, here. I don’t know what you need, but when this is all said and done, I am going to need for you to be honest with me. For now, I’m willing to help both of you be comfortable, but you can’t go touching me. I’m no god and I can’t have it. Alright?”
“Might as well be with that bargain you made with Death.” He groused. I slow blinked at him and waited. He grimaced back, showing teeth. “You said you wanted to fuck me – your word for pressing?” Rowan’s hopeful, breathy voice was going to try every civil fiber of my being. “I kissed you in the forest back home and you felt like heaven. Press me. Please? Don’t you want that too?”
I decided to play with him, just a little. Probably to satisfy myself more than anything. I tunneled my fingers into his hair behind his head and tightened down on it to make him look up at me. The groan slipped along my skin like silk. He panted as I tightened more. “Oh, I do, my Rowan tree. I do. So badly. Here and now and rough on the floor until you’ve created a puddle big enough to float a boat in, and I know in this moment you’d take it with euphoria. But when you finally wake up from your stupor, I don’t want the fallout. So, tell me, what can I do for you?”
He gulped and his eyes drifted off to my right. “I won’t be,” he stuttered, floundering as he tried to motion with the cage to himself, where his length pressed hard against his pants, wetness already darkening a spot on the material. He licked his lip again.
I rubbed a thumb behind his ear, loosening my hold before tightening again and drawing him closer. He snapped his focus back to me. “Tell me.”
He groaned. “I won’t be able to get it on the way I am right now.”
I loosened my grip just a touch. “There, that wasn’t so hard, was it?” I smiled. He nodded. I looked over my shoulder to find Farrow watching us. He had opened the lid on a pot on the table. His glistening fingers played at the edge of his hole. Caught watching, he ducked his head.
“Do you want me to leave you there to deal with your own vices, or shall I see what I can do with both of you at the same time?” I asked him. He swallowed hard, the whimper twitching through the air like a taut string on a guitar.
Rowan held a hand out to him. Farrow shook his head and backed away. “I-I think. I think I’m enjoying this,” he whispered, ducking so as not to look at us.
“What can I do, Rowan?” I asked.
“Anything. Everything. Please,” he begged, went to run his hands across my chest.
I took hold of his hands, gently planting them on the floor if only to keep him from touching me. I ducked close in to his lips. “Can I kiss you?”
He quivered beneath me. “Yes,” he breathed.
I let the hedonist in me take over. Directing one of his hands to his prick, I took my free hand and tested the stubble along his jaw. Delving, I found his tongue yielded to me beautifully. Burying my fingers into the waves of his dark hair, I held him there on the floor, kissing him until a startled gasp let me know he’d found a touch of relief. Gently I let go and found his gaze fixated to the middle distance. “I could worship the ground you walk on,” his voice didn’t come above a whisper.
I slid the second cage into his hand. “Maybe, for now, let’s let you have a bit of control on what is happening to you.”
